"I supported the alternative motion for a resolution by the ECR group, as it was unobjectionable and far better than the resolution as a whole. I voted against the resolution as a whole for a number of reasons, but fundamentally the key point is that it is not for the European Union to instruct Member States what their defence policies should be. Defence of the realm is a matter of national sovereignty and I cannot support any resolution which seeks to undermine that."@en1
