"Mr President, as a co-author of this report, I am very pleased with the eventual outcome and the huge majority that voted in favour of it, because it sends a very strong message to workers – especially in Caterpillar and Alstom – that we stand in solidarity with them. It is not just the preserve of one particular group: my group (the EPP) and others understand their plight very well and stand with them, especially the workers in Northern Ireland who are also affected. This points out to us that we really have to focus on our target of reindustrialising Europe and getting 20% of GDP from industry. To do that, we have to tackle the challenges: first, competition from abroad – from outside Europe; second, climate change; third, finance; and fourth, skill shortages. If we do that, I think we can have a friendly environment for industry and progress and really reindustrialise Europe."@en1
