"Madam President, the Calais crisis is a goldmine for people traffickers and criminal gangs and it is aided and abetted by the European Union. British drivers’ lives have been put at risk for months from people the left insist on calling refugees, even though the majority are not. Last year I sat in a lorry in Calais whilst armed migrants broke into vehicles, the drivers unable to stop them.
Closing the jungle will not stop the crisis. It will just move it along the coast to smaller ports like Zeebrugge and Cherbourg, two places where I have personally witnessed criminal gangs in action. And it moves the problem in the UK from the south-east coast to ports like Hull and Immingham. We already have insufficient border staff, thanks to Theresa May.
Millions of pounds of British taxes are being spent fruitlessly building walls, whilst the French blame the UK, and not their politicians who signed up to Schengen. The EU created this mess. It will not be solved until we turn migrant boats in the Mediterranean back, and deport people who are not genuine refugees."@en1
