"I supported this report in plenary because I would like to see an end to unfair commercial practices against small and medium-sized producers and farmers when they engage in commercial relations in an already greatly concentrated market. Voluntary schemes, such as the Supply Chain Initiative, fail to deliver on that front. It is time for the EU to develop regulatory measures at European level to tackle Unfair Trading Practices (UTPs) and to ensure better enforcement mechanisms are in place at Member State level. Any undue delay will mean that UTPs will continue to distort the market, which will affect the integrity of the European single market, it will adversely affect consumers and create unnecessary food waste. UTPs will needlessly cause workers and farmers to suffer and a lack of action to tackle this will not only have this continue, but also undermine the European Growth and Jobs agenda."@en1
