"I voted in favour of this report which was concerned with access to documents. My colleague Matt Carthy recently attended the TTIP Reading room where he had to sign a confidentiality agreement swearing never to divulge the information, where his phone was taken from him and where he was accompanied into the room by an official, who remained in the reading room for the duration. Not to have access to information or limited access to such flies in the face of democracy and is an insult to the citizens who elect MEPs to represent them in Europe. Moreover, the report criticised lack of clarity in international dealings and the lack of transparency of ECB, EIB and EU institutions. My party have been very vocal on the fact that the effectiveness of EU law is systematically undermined by the EU routinely ignoring every legal and constitutional obstacle in its way in order to increase its supranational power. This lack of transparency, democracy and accountability has led to a widespread lack of trust and confidence in the aims and objectives of the European Union. Therefore, as the report progressively tackled these matters, I voted in favour of it."@en1
