"I was happy to vote in favour of my colleague, Marielle de Sarnez’ report on introducing emergency autonomous trade measures for Tunisia. Tunisia has suffered severe damage to its economy and especially to its tourism sector. Given the long history of cooperation and trade between Tunisia and the European Union, the importation into the Union of untreated olive oil originating in Tunisia (Tunisia’s largest export) via an autonomous trade measure would be mutually beneficial for both parties to the agreement. It would boost economic ties to Tunisia and enhances its cooperation with the European Union. I also support the agreement clause which allows the Commission to suspend the measure should Tunisia fail to comply with any of its stipulations."@en1
