"I voted against an increase in the European budget. I feel that it is important that we ensure that the budget is good value for money across the board. However, it is important to acknowledge the importance of investment from the EU into my constituency of Wales. Wales receives a net gain of GBP 838 million directly from the EU. Investment from the EU has seen university campuses either built from scratch or expanded at Swansea, Cardiff, Aberystwyth and Bangor. It also been used to improve lives across Wales, through programmes like Project Y that is focused on helping young people at risk of falling out of education, and Bridges to Work, designed to help people into employment. Therefore the budget as a whole represents a vital resource for Wales and other regions like it, across the European Union; however it needs to be managed carefully and spent on priorities like the projects mentioned."@en1
