"I voted in favour of the report on guidelines for the preparation of the 2017 budget. This report is the first step of the annual budgetary procedure in the European Parliament. We are sending a political message to the Commission. One of the things we ask for is a medium- and long-term political and financial plan to deal with the migration crisis. Also we believe that the response to the migrant crisis should not come at the expense of the EU programmes. Such EU programmes strengthen the EU economy, enable growth and create jobs. In this context boosting investment is a key priority. I voted against Amendment 24 as it called for an increase in the payments made by Member States with the highest per capita income. Ireland would be one of those countries so I voted against the amendment. We are simply not in a position to pay. I also voted against Amendment 32 which calls for ‘a more harmonised and progressive tax regime’ at EU level."@en1
