"I was happy to support my colleague Angelika Mlinar who was rapporteur on this report on gender mainstreaming in the work of the European Parliament.
Equality between women and men is one of the fundamental principles of EU law, a common value and a necessary condition for the achievement of the EU objectives of growth, employment and social cohesion. For 20 years now, the Commission committed itself to a ‘dual approach’ towards realising gender equality. This means mainstreaming a gender perspective into all policies, while also implementing specific measures to eliminate, prevent or remedy gender inequalities. This report supports that commitment by the Commission by calling for a rotating co-chair for the Gender Mainstreaming Network, a strong and stable relationship between the EP high-level group for gender equality and diversity, targeted trainings for staff and MEPs, and a standing rapporteur on gender mainstreaming to ensure better and more effective cooperation."@en1
