"As a strong proponent of free trade, I voted in favour of supporting the EU-Tunisia Free Trade Agreement resolution. Whilst this will have economic benefits for both sides, this move will also help support an important ally in North Africa, help modernise the Tunisian economy and create the growth and jobs needed to help stabilise the Tunisian economy. It will also help support Tunisia’s transition into a vibrant, modern democracy – something strategically vital for British interests in a region experiencing political instability.
This resolution is ambitious in scope and includes the main economic sectors which are beneficial for both sides. The resolution also gives Tunisia enough time to adapt to the new market conditions which it will be required to uphold."@en1
