"I along with ALDE voted in favour of the Presumption of Innocence Directive which is one of a package of three directives, the other two being legal aid and specific safeguards for children, that are all aimed at strengthening the rights of individuals in criminal proceedings. I welcome this step forward to ensuring individuals’ rights are respected in criminal proceedings and that there are fairer trials for all EU citizens. Of particular importance in this directive is that the principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ remains across Member States and that the final text agrees is a positive result for EU citizens who will have access to fair trials across the EU."@en1
