"I opposed this report because it calls upon the Commission to take action on matters which should be within the remit of Member States; it seeks to extend the power of a protectionist European Parliament into competition law.
However, a more pressing reason to oppose the report as a whole was that it calls for the introduction of a Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base. Harmonisation across all 28 Member States is rarely in the interests of all, and specifically in the United Kingdom – which prides itself on being a good place to trade – this can only be bad for business."@en1
