"Madam President, my thanks to the rapporteur and the shadows. I wanted to raise the subject of steel dumping by China onto the EU market. With an estimated 94% of dumped steel landing in the UK, it is no surprise that there is currently a crisis in the UK steel industry. In Scotland, we are witnessing over 200 job losses in Cambuslang and in Motherwell. This has not been helped by the fact that steel contracts to build the new Forth Crossing were given by the SNP government in Edinburgh not to Scottish steel manufacturers, but to China. Both the UK Government and the SNP government in Edinburgh have to take responsibility for the state of our local steel sector, but what action can be taken by the Council and Commission to secure not just the future of UK and Scottish steel, but also the future of the EU steel industry?"@en1
