"I strongly supported a motion that went through Parliament calling on Member States and the United Nations to properly back education in areas of protracted crisis. Education is a fundamental human right, but more than that, it is also one of the key determinants of a child’s future. Out-of-school children and adolescents face a higher risk of early marriage, pregnancy, recruitment into armed groups, trafficking and labour exploitation. By ensuring universal and high-quality education we can promote stability and it can act as a catalyst for development. Education bind societies back together, giving people the skills to help rebuild their own countries. All of this requires long-term investment and thinking. For all of these reasons I backed this resolution."@en1
