The region’s turbulent past is marked by events which had devastating and long-lasting effects on development and cooperation between the countries. More recently, the economic crisis has had a major impact on the region. Unemployment and indebtedness are reaching unprecedented heights. The economic recovery and growth in the ailing economies are hampered by falling investments, both public and private."@en1
