"President, I welcome the strengthening of this legislation designed to ensure the EU is not complicit in torture, and to fulfil the EU’s commitment to standing against the death penalty and torture throughout the world. Updates to this legislation will ensure EU companies do not profit from torture in oppressive regimes, and send a strong signal that those who trade in execution and torture goods, including technical assistance and supplier services, that they cannot access the EU market. In particular, I welcome new measures to improve the speed and efficiency of reacting to suspected transactions and strongly stand behind the EU ban on trading drugs intended for the death penalty."@en1
