"Along with my colleagues in the Socialist & Democrats Group, I voted in favour of this resolution reaffirming the EU’s leading role in the drive for the abolition of the death penalty and a moratorium on executions, and calling on the Commission to respond to a number of questions by Parliament about the measures being taken to mainstream in EU foreign policy and external relations the campaign to abolish the death penalty.
While progress has been made in a number of countries, there is still a long way to go before the death penalty is abolished worldwide: executions were carried out last year in 22 of the 58 countries and territories in the world that still use the death penalty. The EU needs to do more to push third countries to abolish this despicable practice."@en1
