While emissions of air pollutants from small and large combustion plants are regulated at EU level, there is no specific regulation for medium-sized combustion plants. Air pollution is estimated to lead to more than 400 000 premature deaths per year and causing health costs of up to EUR 940 billion. Reducing emissions from medium combustion plants can help contribute to achieving EU climate and energy targets through reducing greenhouse gases and improving energy efficiency. This instrument is very important in order to improve air quality in the EU without imposing unjustified burdens on society and the economy."@en1
