"This report concerned a proposal further to legislate on the European small claims procedure by amending existing legislation. The UK Independence Party is in principle opposed to the European Union having the power to legislate for the United Kingdom, and would normally vote against any report which advocated legislation or which was itself a legislative proposal. In this instance we are very mindful of the impact on UK small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) of debts of up to EUR 10 000 being unpaid, and of the effort and costs of recovering such sums. UKIP is therefore minded not to oppose this report. UKIP decided to abstain, and I voted accordingly."@en1
