But countries are helping in different ways: my Polish colleagues have talked to me about the hundreds of thousands of people who have escaped from Ukraine into Poland; my Croatian colleague has told me how her tiny country is trying to help thousands of people arriving there today; in the UK, we have sent over GBP 1 billion of aid to the region already and have, just today, offered to send a naval ship to help in the combat against traffickers. I hope that the Commission will give a swift response to that offer. Countries can help in different ways: we should respect this. I am concerned that the top—down quotas will build resentment. We need to work together to do more in the reception centres and more to help the millions of people in the region, but please let us stop the finger pointing because that is damaging.
