"I voted in favour of this report given I strongly support the measures it proposes to ensure efficient functioning of the fruit and vegetable sector, which is crucial for generating employment in agriculture as well as the food-processing sector across the EU, not in the least in the UK.
While the EU fruit and vegetable scheme is already highly valued by UK farmers, it is important we send a strong signal to the Commission in favour of implementing further simplification where possible.
While I believe farmers should be compensated for losses they may suffer because of external factors, like the agrifood embargo that is currently hurting many that are active in the sector, I could however not give my support to the paragraph of the report that calls for crisis prevention and management measures to be financed outside of the CAP budgetary envelopes, given the CAP already provides adequate financial measures to deal with such emergencies."@en1
