"Today we mark the second anniversary of the tragedy in Bangladesh where the collapse of the Rana Plaza building killed 1 134 people and injured hundreds of others.
Families of the victims are still fighting for compensation and, although a number of major brands have donated to the Rana Plaza Donors Trust Fund to award compensation, there is still a huge shortfall.
Despite the efforts of the International Labour Organisation and of EU and US agencies, the rights and safety of garment factory workers in Bangladesh are still not being safeguarded. Many companies are still refusing to pay their workers a fair living wage, and the issuing of building permits is still not being properly monitored. Unless there is real pressure from across the globe, we will continue to see cheap and fast fashion at the cost of human lives."@en1
