"This resolution prioritised a wide range of human rights issues such as social and economic rights, women’s rights, civil and political rights, rights of the child, LGBTI rights, and human rights in the context of climate change. It also expresses full support for the role of the International Criminal Court.
It referred specifically to a number of challenges such as socio-economic rights concerning access to food, water, healthcare, education, housing etc. and the need to address extreme inequalities as a means to fight poverty. It also identified tax evasion and the mismanagement of public goods as a violation of citizens’ rights which, it pointed out, diverts funds from investment in much-needed public services. It also condemns violence against women in war and peacetime and recognises the vital role of women in peace-building.
I welcome Palestine being named a priority country and the denouncement of Israel for not cooperating with the UN Commission of Inquiry into Gaza. Unfortunately, the resolution does not state clearly that the illegal occupation and blockade are the root cause of the conflict in Palestine.
Overall however, the resolution was much more positive than negative. I voted in favour."@en1
