"I voted in favour of the multilateral interchange fees regulation because it will bring down costs for both consumers and retailers. The cap on credit and debit card transaction fees will save British business an estimated GBP 480 million a year and will make shoppersʼ lives a little clearer, a little fairer and a lot cheaper. The caps will be applied from six months after the regulation comes into force and the rest of the measures will start to be applied after 12 months. We support the measures to cap credit card transaction fees at 0.3 % and a cap of 0.2 % for debit card transaction fees. For far too long, card schemes and banks have been able to increase the fees that we are all charged when we use our debit and credit cards without any competition to bring these prices down."@en1
