"Mr President, Long-term Investment Funds (ELTIFs) will be vital in channelling savings towards long—term investment projects. In particular, infrastructure and the link with investments under Horizon 2020 are a really positive step. For me, it is important that funds should be targeted towards projects to create jobs and growth, the real economy. Therefore, it is a pity that the Council did not support Parliament’s request for 60% of investments to go to European projects and there are not greater measures to protect the retail investors willing to invest in ELTIFs for a longer term.
ELTIFs are also an important element mentioned in the Commission’s Green Paper on CMU, and we urgently need to develop and boost the right tools to stimulate financing of the European economy. One of the priorities of CMU in this respect is the revitalisation of the securitisation market. However, it must be clear that there should be full standardisation, transparency, adequate capital requirements and clear information to investors on the credit risk.
I would like to congratulate Alain Lamassoure and the Italian Presidency."@en1
