"It is important that every citizen is treated equally in the EU, no matter which Member State roads they are driving on. However, what is also vitally important is data protection in relation to traffic offences.
Information such as national vehicle registration data will be shared across borders in order to track down drivers liable of safety-related offences such as speeding and drink-driving.
Ireland will soon be integrated in the cross-border exchange information on road safety related offences.
The previous directive has proved to be effective in mainland Europe and my colleagues and I are positive that the new directive, which will also be extended to Ireland and the UK, will reduce the number of road deaths even further."@en1
