"In 1989, the United Nations created the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), a human rights treaty designed specifically to safeguard the rights of children. 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of this convention, but sadly there is still work to be done.
This resolution is important as new issues have arisen since the CRC was first ratified; for example, the rise of cyber-attacks on children and the use of children in terrorist activities.
While all EU Member States have ratified the CRC, children’s rights continue to be violated. We must do more to develop an integrated EU strategy to effectively promote and safeguard the rights of the child and to increase the participation of children in parliamentary activities.
By creating a parliamentary intergroup that will promote children’s rights across the EU the European Parliament is demonstrating its commitment to furthering children’s rights and monitoring progress in this area."@en1
