"I abstained on this resolution as, although it contains some good elements, and we have reversed some of the damaging decreases in some budget lines, there are still many problems with the EU Budget and its application. Damaging delays and misplaced focus mean that once again we have a budget that mostly benefits the elite. There are some important increases which, although I welcome their presence, do not go far enough. Also, I am disappointed that money continues to be committed to areas which are simply not valuable to Europeʼs citizens. The role of the VPRH is just one of these areas where the EU is simply out of touch with what citizens want. On the other hand I am pleased to see that Parliament has decided to increase the funding to UNRWA, this is clearly an example of the citizensʼ concerns coming to the fore. However on the whole, many items in the budget are simply not what the people need and therefore I abstained."@en1
