"Mr President, hundreds of my constituents have written to me asking me to vote against EU subsidies for bullfighting and I was more than happy to oblige. Most British taxpayers would be appalled to know that their money is being used for this purpose.
However, they also need to know that while the vote on the budget itself achieved a majority, it was not allowed because it did not achieve a qualified majority. The subsequent vote on the report also had a majority but the report was purely a commentary on the budget and it also has no effect. British taxpayers’ money will continue to be spent and used to subsidise the breeding of bulls for ritual slaughter. If the British people do not like it, then the only thing that they can do is vote for the UK Independence Party and bring forward the day when Britain leaves the European Union."@en1
