"A Uachtaráin, comhghairdeas don Choimisinéir agus do choláiste na gCoimisinéirí. Go n-éirí go geal libh sa dúshlán mór atá romhaibh agus romhainn amach.
Mr President, I would like to congratulate President Juncker on the way he has divided what could be an unwieldy bunch of 28 independent-minded Commissioners into an effective team. I think that is a good idea and, as a sportsman, I also welcome the fact that he has made sport a specific responsibility for Commissioner Navracsics.
I would like to congratulate the Irish Commissioner, Phil Hogan, on being given the heavy responsibility of the agriculture portfolio, and I would ask President Juncker maybe to help him to reverse the decision of recent days to raid the emergency funds for farmers, as a result of the pressure put on them due to Russian sanctions, taking EUR 451 million and reducing it to a little over EUR 80 million. That is not acceptable.
I also welcome your commitment, President Juncker, in relation to the EUR 300 billion and especially the involvement of the private sector, because it is private-sector entrepreneurs, rather than bureaucrats, who create jobs.
With regard to trade, I would urge you particularly to place great emphasis on liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in Europe, in order to improve security and diversity of supply, and also on electricity interconnectors, which can be very effective, particularly using intermittent renewables.
Lastly, I want to welcome your commitment to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). I would also ask you to ensure that the Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement (CETA) with Canada and the Singapore deal are brought to fruition as soon as possible.
Mr Juncker, you have a very ambitious plan. Please make the plan a reality from the word go."@en1
