"Madam President, I would like to address the UKIP MEPs who came briefly in their little gang and did their carefully choreographed cynical performance and then left very quickly clapping each other on the back in self-congratulation. I would like to say to them that to come to this serious, considered debate about hundreds of thousands, indeed millions, of young people denied the dignity and decency of work at the beginning of their lives – to come here with their dog-whistle, xenophobic, lowest common denominator politics – is a national disgrace. As a British person I am ashamed.
What they should have said was that the UK Government’s failure, with a programme that could have been implemented on 1 September, to have applied for funds is equally is a disgrace, letting down the young people of our country."@en1
