lpv:spoken text	"Mr President, small, regional airports have a vital role to play in the economic development of their regions. I would like the new Commission-designate to focus on those airports and to ensure that investment is provided so that they can continue to be the engines of the regions in which they are located and can contribute to an efficient and effective transport system that allows regions to take full advantage of the internal market and to trade on a global scale. EU enlargement means there are greater travel distances within the Union, so it is more important than ever that regions are served by airports. We also need to promote global accessibility: it is well known that, when companies are locating to or investing in an area, international accessibility is very important and the availability of a local airport is key to their location requirements. As the Union enlarges, tourism is another area where we can create great employment opportunities. I would like the Commission, in its next term, to ensure investment in our airports ..."@en1
