"Mr[nbsp ]President, I attended the debate on this question yesterday but unfortunately I did not succeed in ‘catching the eye’ – that happens, and I have no complaints. I wanted, however, to respond to one particular proposal. It was suggested that we should boycott the World Cup in Russia in 2018. I have a far better proposal, and it is this: we should give Russia a deadline, maybe sometime this year, and if there is no satisfactory solution by then, we should move all international events designated for Russia over the next number of years to some other country.
Where the World Cup is concerned, that would mean moving it, too, to another country. Thus the players would not be upset, everything could go as planned, and the only people who would be upset and discriminated against, so to speak, would be in Russia itself – which is the real target in this situation. There would be no need for a boycott because there would be no events in Russia. I think this proposal is something we should look at. I hope everyone will take it on board, because we need to bring Russia to its senses and make it hurt where it matters: in terms of money and image."@en1
