"I voted against this proposal because I believe this proposal would trigger legal uncertainty by creating an additional legal regime next to the legal regimes of the Member States and raise questions of subsidiarity (taking into account the legal form of the proposed regulation). An optional instrument is unsuitable for consumer contracts, the trader deciding whether to offer the application of the Common European sales law or not. This creates an asymmetry of information and power to the detriment of the consumer. The proposal would undermine the level of consumer protection in some Member States, so I have voted against it."@en1
