"Mr President, I welcome the progress made by FYROM. However, there are still many outstanding concerns that need to be addressed: law and justice reform, economic development, human rights abuses and neighbourly relations need to be settled. It is also incorrect for FYROM to hijack history: putting up statues of Alexander the Great and claiming him as their own is historically incorrect. Given the historical and cultural diversity of Europe, these things are very important to get right. Respecting Member States is paramount.
As I am sure Alexander the Great would have said: there is nothing impossible to him who will try. I urge FYROM to try: try to respect your neighbours, try to respect your citizens and try to respect history."@en1
