"Mr President, as we all know, over the last 10 to 20 odd years the Internet has been an example of a disruptive technology. It shatters the old business models of the music industry which used to rely on the physical media: tapes, vinyl, CDs. Also, at the same time, we have another phenomenon, which is that some artists are living way beyond the original copyright terms. But what we see, or have seen in many cases, is the music industry not coming to terms with these changes in technology, trying to rely on old inhibitions and old barriers. Let us make sure that the growth of this wonderful industry is not inhibited by the out-of-date attitudes of the music industry. Let us make sure it is not inhibited by out-of-date licensing rules, and let us make sure that we can see a huge growth and explosion in this wonderful industry by getting rid of out-of-date copyright rules."@en1
