"This draft resolution comes ahead of the global conference in Warsaw in November. I particularly welcome that it highlights that many of the past COP decisions have not been acted upon. We need to learn from the failure of previous decisions to be implemented and perhaps be more realistic in our demands or expectations. This resolution, quite rightly, calls for a more comprehensible and coherent post-2020 agreement (a new ‘Climate Pact’), with each country contributing (common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities). The inclusion of all countries in the planning phase is essential if we really want to have a climate impact! The resolution also calls for a climate strategy to create new jobs. This is exactly the type of joined-up thinking we need. In a time of economic crisis, when people are struggling to put food on the table, it is very difficult to sell long-term climate goals. A climate-friendly job creation strategy is an excellent idea, which will allow the EU citizens to get involved in combating climate change. I also welcome the commitment to reduce our dependency upon energy imports, so that the EU can be energy independent!"@en1
