"Corruption disproportionately affects the most disadvantaged and the marginalised, barring them from equal access to politics, public services, justice, safety, land, jobs, education, health and housing. The World Bank estimates the corruption amounts to 5 % of global GDP, far exceeding the value of global ODA. Europe can only become a credible and influential leader in the fight against corruption when it properly addresses organised crime, corruption and money laundering within its own borders. The Commission should come forward with an EU Action Plan against corruption. All European firms must fulfil their corporate social responsibility to respect human rights, at the very least by complying with the UNʼs Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The human rights clause introduced into all agreements between the EU and third countries should be strengthened by the inclusion of commitments on the protection and promotion of good governance. Europe should press for binding international rules to regulate private military and security companies, which are particularly prone to corruption, and to protect whistle-blowers and follow up the information they provide; if we are serious about fighting corruption, we need to be serious about protecting whistle-blowers."@en1
