lpv:spoken text	"In 1997 Burma’s access to the Generalised System of tariff preferences (GSP) was temporarily withdrawn. Since Burma’s recent programme of reform, however, there is a case to be made that now is the appropriate time to reinstate that access. The ILO has concluded that violations in Burma are no longer ‘serious and systematic’, and agreed that tariff preferences should be reinstated. Whilst this progress is encouraging, the continued human rights abuses in Burma should not be forgotten. Since April 2012 exiles have been welcomed back to Burma and thousands of political prisoners have been released. Nevertheless, many political prisoners remain in jail and ethnic violence in Rohingya state is of concern. It is important that the symbolic weight of this proposal be valued equally as much as the financial benefit to Burma – the EU can act positively to ensure that the country’s human rights agenda is progressed as extensively as is possible. The EU is already working actively, as demonstrated by the founding of the Burma Peace Centre in Yangon. I am therefore minded to support this move and believe that it will contribute to the wider movement of reintegrating Burma back into the global economy."@en1
