"We in the UK still are picking up the pieces of the implosion of our banking system. Every taxpayer in the land has had to foot the bill for the grossly irresponsible practices of bankers, playing fast and loose with money that they simply did not have. Those same bankers to this day have yet to face justice for their actions. They still collect their hefty pensions and escape accountability. How is that right? If banks go bust in future it should not fall to the taxpayer to bail them out – that shortfall should be met by equity holders and subordinated debtors. Until we get to a situation where this sort of carelessness is not possible, then we fall short in protecting our constituents – the hardworking, decent taxpayer."@en1
