lpv:translated text	"The Interinstitutional Agreement of 17 May 2006 allows the mobilisation of the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) within the annual ceiling of EUR 1 billion. Italy applied for assistance under the EUSF following a series of earthquakes in that country in May 2012, which caused 27 deaths, around 350 injuries and the evacuation of 45 000 people. There was also serious and widespread damage to buildings, infrastructure, businesses, industrial facilities, agriculture and the important cultural heritage sector. The application made by the Italian authorities complies with the eligibility criteria of Council Regulation (EC) No 2012/2002, which is why the Commission has proposed to mobilise the EUSF for an amount of EUR 670 192 359 in commitment and payment appropriations.
