Farmers, and especially small-scale farmers, increasingly need aid and legal instruments to cope with global competition in agricultural markets both within the EU and internationally. I think the policy to promote local markets through the development of products with low food miles and information about origin and quality is particularly important for guaranteeing better incomes for farmers. This approach could prove particularly important in mountainous areas where in-quota agriculture is one of the most important ways of preventing the abandonment and degradation of the land and the environment."@en1
