This concerns the right to stand as a candidate in elections to the European Parliament for citizens of the Union residing in an EU state of which they are not nationals. Parliament’s original intention was for candidates to be able to stand in more than one constituency at the same election. One of the chief revisions to the earlier drafts is that the Directive now only covers the right to stand. In conclusion, it can be said that the draft on election to the EP has been simplified. To ensure that the modest but sensible reforms will be in place in time for 2014, the simplified procedure should be used and approved."@en1
