".
I support this report, since the purpose of this Regulation is to restrict the general public’s access to high-risk chemicals which have the potential to be used to produce home-made explosives. I think that in today’s world we must adopt an ever more preventive approach in order to protect Europe’s citizens. The crisis and austerity, as well as the international climate and the geo-strategic situation of Europe, place an obligation on us to take precautionary measures for the sake of the well-being of the population in general. We cannot step aside from the present European and world reality: some fear, frustration and disturbance, since instability took over the economy and thus society as a whole in a large part of Europe, which is living under extreme austerity measures. In addition, it should be stressed that Europe, as an international player with a foreign policy, must be alert to possible attacks and other terrorist acts against the population in general due to political and cultural principles, values and ideas. We must therefore, at all costs, protect the safety and well-being of the people of Europe."@en1
