"I hardly need to say that the single market has certainly benefited citizens and businesses. For this reason I voted in favour. The problem, however, is that, unlike our competitors such as the US, the trade policy pursued by the European Commission with third countries does not put us in a position to protect our interests. Similarly, the single market cannot be invoked as the solution to every problem in Europe. Often it is actually poorly conceived directives, like the Services Directive, that give our workers and businesses enormous problems. Bring on the single market, but let it not be an instrument designed solely around the needs of multinationals."@en1
