Today, hunger and food insecurity remain global challenges and, despite substantial progress on a number of fronts in the past decade, progress on hunger and malnutrition has remained stubbornly slow. Consequently it is necessary to make modifications to the Food Aid Convention (FAC 1999). Highlighting the fact that the Food Assistance Convention 2012 is fully in line with the EU’s ongoing efforts to contribute to reducing poverty and eradicating hunger globally in the framework of the Millennium Development Goals, and hoping for the setting up of an international, legally binding framework that defines and provides the commitments and instruments for the delivery of food assistance to developing countries, I voted in favour of the proposal."@en1
