"The common fisheries policy (CFP) includes the principle of equal access to coastal waters, and this principle has now been in effect for more than 40 years. However, the Regulation is due to expire on 31 December 2012. The current proposal seeks to extend this period until 31 December 2014. The retention of the 12-mile zone is particularly important, not only as a security measure but, above all, because of the statutory nature of environmental legislation and possible criminal prosecution. Therefore, I voted in favour of it."@en1
