"The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) was set up in order to improve food safety throughout the European Union and thus guarantee a high level of consumer protection so that consumers can trust Europe’s food products. It acts throughout the food chain, from the safety of food for animals intended for human consumption to the protection of plants and plant health. This report concerns discharge in respect of the implementation of the EFSA budget for the financial year 2010, following the European Parliament Decision of 10 May 2012 postponing the discharge decision for that financial year due to issues raised by the Court of Auditors, although the latter stated that ‘it has obtained reasonable assurances that the annual accounts for the financial year 2010 are reliable and that the underlying transactions are legal and regular’. Given the replies from the Authority and the opinion of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, I voted in favour of this report to grant discharge in respect of the EFSA budget for 2010."@en1
