"Mr President, regarding the Nobel Peace Prize, I would say to those of you who are going to receive it, that you should pay due honour to the European citizen who really deserves it, and this means, firstly, the citizen of the South, who can no longer survive in the conditions in which he finds himself, and secondly, the citizen of the North, who continues, in a spirit of mutual European solidarity, to support the South. These two citizens are putting up a fight and holding fast to the European vision.
Mr President, now that we have turned to a growth and employment agenda, I think we should see to it that there are no reductions in the allocation of Structural Funds to the South, which are crucial for those countries’ development."@en1
