I hope that it will help us make certification schemes simpler and more transparent, adaptable to innovation and less burdensome for producers and consumers. Farmers will certainly continue to focus on quality, but they expect us to create the necessary conditions for them to secure a fair return on their investment, not forgetting that the imposition of such high production standards, in terms of food security, animal welfare and environmental sustainability, is reflected in a higher final product price. Consumers who demand quality from European producers end up buying cheaper and poorer-quality imported products. This is our challenge: to invest in quality, secure a fair income for producers and provide a reasonable option for consumers."@en1
